Indigenous Studies

Indigenous Studies is an interdisciplinary field grounded in the languages, histories, geographies, and contemporary experiences of Indigenous peoples

Overview

Indigenous traditional foodways have intentionally been disrupted due to historic and ongoing colonial practices. Reserve systems, National Park systems, Residential Schools, and environmental pollution are just a few colonial practices that have impacted traditional Indigenous foodways. Despite the many obstacles, Indigenous Peoples around the world are finding ways to maintain and expand their traditional foodway systems.
