The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) was adopted in 2006 following recommendations from their Human Rights Council. This work highlights the special rights of Indigenous Peoples around the world. British Columbia developed legislation supporting UNDRIP in 2019 under Bill 41. In 2021 Canada added Bill C-15, requiring the Canadian government to ensure Canadian laws are consistent with the Declaration.
