Use the power of call numbers to find useful items on the shelf!
Call numbers are the letters and numbers that libraries use to organize books and other items on the shelf. Each item has a label attached to its 'spine' or side showing the call number. The call numbers are designed to group items on similar topics together. Once you find one good item, it pays to look for others on the shelves nearby.
Subject headings useful for business research:
Combine terms to be more precise using the 'AND' command
e.g. coffee AND import AND Canada
Find synoyms using the 'OR' command
e.g. international OR global
Use single quote marks to match multiple words exactly (**use double quote marks in Summon and in research databases)
e.g. 'business analysts'
Use shortcuts to find words with different spellings:
e.g. correction$ will find correction, corrections, and correctional (but not corrective)
Find the library subject terms for your topic
e.g. if you browse by SUBJECT for the keyword Taser (which is a brand name) you'll see that libraries use the term stun guns instead
These textbooks are open and free!
