Scholarly journals (often called "academic" or "peer-reviewed") are written by researchers or professors (experts in a field), and they often report an original research or experiment results. Before they are published, these articles go through a peer review process by which an author's peers, recognized researchers in the field, read and evaluate a paper (article) submitted for publication and recommend whether the paper should be published, revised, or rejected. Accessing journal articles is essential for staying updated on the latest research, theories, and case studies in both human geography and physical geography.
For human geography students, you can find articles on topics such as urban planning, cultural geography, population studies, economic geography, and social issues. These articles provide detailed analyses, empirical research, and theoretical discussions that can enhance your understanding of human-environment interactions.
For physical geography students, our collection includes articles on climate science, geomorphology, hydrology, biogeography, and environmental management. These scholarly papers offer insights into natural processes, scientific methodologies, and practical applications in the field.
To locate journal articles, you can search on Summon Search.
You can then filter by "Scholarly & Peer Review Articles". This will make your results show only journal articles that have gone through the peer review process.
Once you have filtered, you can access the articles by clicking on the title, the pdf option, or the "Full Text Online" option.
If you know the name of a particular journal you would like to access, click here to find out if KPU has access. Searching by journal may be useful if you are looking for a topic for a research paper. This lets you see what is being talked about within the field!
Our Research database page offers you access to online databases. Geography does not have one dedicated database, so to begin your geographical research, we recommend:
Large, multidisciplinary article database that is a good starting point for research in many areas.
Off campus access restricted to current KPU students and employees.
Most journals have extensive past coverage with access to current articles typically delayed 3-5 years post publication.
Off campus access restricted to current KPU students and employees.
Current scholarly articles from many areas of science and ebooks published from 2017-2021.
Access from 1995 to present.
