Lists Canadian data sources available to KPU users, as well as tools for working with datasets.

Statistical analysis software available at KPU

Excel

Excel logo

    • Excel is installed on all student workstations.
    • Some files from Statistics Canada (such as Justice tables) and BC STATS are in Excel format. 
    • International agencies such as the OECD also release data in this format.

SPSS

      • SPSS is installed on all student workstations.
      • SPSS is a powerful program, used to analyze 'raw' microdata files in plain text (.TXT) or Comma Separated Variable (.CSV) formats.
      • It is the most commonly used statistical analysis software in the Social Sciences, especially in Psychology.
  • An open source alternative to SPSS is PSPP

 Beyond 20/20 (B2020) 

Beyond 20/20 software logo

      • Beyond 20/20 software is installed on all student workstations.
      • If you are using your own computer, you can download a PC-only version for free
      • Many of Statistics Canada's files are in Beyond 20/20 (.IVT) format. 
      • B2020 is a software program which allows users to 'slice-and-dice' Statcan tables to a much greater degree than is possible with the interface on the Statcan website
