DVDs @ the Library

Two Ways to Request a DVD

Need it fast?  Place a hold on a DVD and if it is on the shelf, it'll be ready for pickup at your campus as soon as possible.

  • How? Search for the title in the KPU Library Catalogue & click on the Place Hold link.

Need it for a specific date & time?  Book a DVD.

  • How?  Search for the title in the KPU Library Catalogue.
  • When you find the item, go to the DVD Request Form.
  • Be sure to complete all the fields on the form for fastest service.

Delivery Timelines

Monday to Friday: next day delivery if your request is received before 2pm.  After 2pm, delivery is in 2 business days.

Note:  Next day delivery is only possible if your request is received before 2pm and the item is available.  Delivery between campuses is dependent on KPU Mail & Inter-campus Courier availability.

In addition to KPU owned DVDs and videos, Kwantlen participates in a provincial cooperative that facilitates the exchange of DVDs and videos among post-secondary institutions.

Search for a DVD from Another Institution
 
Ask a librarian to assist you in searching for those items relevant to your area of interest or search for videos and DVDs available from other institutions via the Illume: ELN Media Catalogue.
  • Go to the Library Catalogue
  • Click on Illume.
  • Next to the Title search field click on
  • Click on the Clear All icon.
  • Under BC Libraries check the box for ELN Media Cat.
  • Close the window by clicking on the X.
  • Enter your search terms

Delivery Timelines

Allow 10 business days for DVDs or videos to be mailed to KPU.

Your Responsibility 

Never leave equipment or DVDs unattended, even in a classroom.  You may be required to resume full financial responsibility for any damage or loss of equipment or DVDs on loan to you.

 

Loan Periods

DVDs are 7 day loans.  Longer loans are possible, check with staff at the Equipment Desk for details.

Fines

Overdue fines are not charged for DVDs.  See the Fines Rates section on the Overdues & Fines page for current fines rates for equipment.

 

Pickup

If you have booked a DVD for a specific date, pick it up at the Equipment Desk during Library open hours.

Contact us ahead of time if you need to pickup DVDs outside Library hours.

 

Return

During Library open hours, return DVDs to the Equipment Desk or the inside return bin.

After Library hours, return DVDS to the outside Library book return bin.

Ensure equipment and DVDs will be there when you need them by requesting them ahead of time.  Submit your requests as early as possible.

There's more than one way you can request!

If you are requesting the same DVD to be used at more than one campus, please submit all requests at one campus.

If you are submitting requests on behalf of another instructor, please let us know.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the loan period for videos and DVDs so short?
A 7 DAY LOAN allows you to take a video home and, in most cases, still makes it available for an instructor to use for classroom instruction.

Can I renew a video or DVD online?
DVDs and videos can be renewed once online or at the Service Counter.  If you require a DVD for a class presentation, place a request for the DVD for the specific day and time of your presentation.

How long does it take to get a DVD from another campus?
Monday to Friday next day delivery if your request is received before 2 pm.  After 2 pm, delivery is in 2 business days (dependent on the item being available).

How long does it take to get a DVD from another institution?
This type of request is called Requesting a Non-KPU DVD. Please allow at least 10 working days for delivery.

Will I receive confirmation of a video I've requested?
You will receive confirmation by email to your KPU email account and through checking your 'My Library Account.

Can I return DVDsat any campus?
Yes, you can return them to any campus Library.
