Open Education

Resources for finding and using open educational resources (OER) and other open education topics for students.

orange padlock that is unlockedKPU's Subject Guides are excellent places to start your research. In these guides, librarians recommend specific databases based on particular subject areas. Databases that contain open access articles will be marked with an orange open padlock icon. This is a standard icon that is used all over the internet to mark open access content, but not everything will be marked and sometimes resources get marked incorrectly. If adapting or sharing the item with others always double-check the license information to know what you can do with it.

Summon is our library discovery layer that searches across hundreds of our licensed databases, as well as open collections. It is the default search from our library home page.

You can refine your Summon search to limit by Open Access Content by choosing the filter below once you have enacted your search. The Open Access facet is on the left of the screen as pictured below. Open content will have the Open Access unlocked symbol also circled in the image.

Many of our vendors who provide licensed content, like Sage or Springer, are now providing access to some open content as well. When searching inside of databases, look among the available filters to see if there is an Open Access option.
