KPU Library is pleased to introduce our very first Student Library Ambassador, Jessica!
Melissa Smith, our Student Success Librarian, pursued the establishment of a Library Ambassador for KPU Library to help elevate our student engagement initiatives and "to empower students to navigate library services and spaces with confidence." We are excited to see Jessica connect with KPU students and hope this is an enriching experience both for her and the library users she encounters.
We spoke with Jessica to get to know her and about why she wanted to be a library ambassador.
Pronouns: She/Her
Program: Business of Marketing Management
Being able to connect with the students at KPU was a major part of why I wanted to become a library ambassador! My prior experience with social media engagement allows me to spread information to students and let them know about special events or general information about the library.
As a library ambassador this year, I would like to bring in more awareness about the fun events and cool equipment that the library could provide to students. Usually, the initial reaction of a library is textbooks and studying. Therefore, I would like to shift that mindset to a place where students can connect with others, attend fun events, and provide a safe place for anyone to learn in. By accomplishing this goal, I want to bring students together by using a mix of in-person and social media engagement.
One cool fact about me is that I have been swimming since the age of 3 years old, and now I have become a swimming instructor myself!
Jessica's term as a Student Ambassador will last until the end of Spring semester. Please join us by warmly welcoming Jessica and say hello if you see her around at library events!
