Census Program Public Use Microdata Files (PUMF’s)
Microdata files will open by default in the program called SDA (Survey Documentation & Analysis). SDA software allows you to conduct basic statistical analyses online without having to purchase and learn complex software such as SPSS. You can download the results in multiple formats, and generate a number of charts and tables.
You can also download subsets of the microdata files in several formats, if you would rather use a different program for your analysis. The formats are:
CSV, Text (with or without blanks), SPSS, SPSS, STATA, DDI (XML) and SDA (DDL).
We strongly recommend that you do NOT try to download an entire microdata file. Because of the large size of these files, it is much better to create a customized subset that includes only the data that you need. Large file transfers often time out. The Canadian Census Analyser walks you through the steps of creating and downloading a custom subset.
Note: Only the PUMF's in this database are subject to the DLI License Agreement for Public Use Microdata Files. The Census and NHS Profiles may be used under the terms of the Statistics Canada Open License Agreement.
Help: Please contact Chris Burns (Data Services Librarian) if you have any questions about the Canadian Census Analyser.
