Cluny South PSYC 2330

Welcome to this Psychology Research Page for Cluny South's PSYC 2330 class!

I've gathered together some resources on this page that will make things a bit easier to successfully complete the journal article critical review paper you have to write for your class.

For the Critical Review Paper assignment you must find:

  • one peer-reviewed empirical study
  • published within the last 10 years
  • and the article has to be published in one of the following journals: Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Social Psychological and Personality Science, Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, European Journal of Social Psychology, British Journal of Social Psychology, or Journal of Applied Social Psychology.

In an Appendix you must include

  • an APA reference for the article
  • a permalink to the article in the PsycINFO database
  • a full pdf version of the article

And when you write your critical review paper you must use APA style in-text and reference list citations for any additional information sources you use.

Some tips to make this easier

Tip 1: Use the link below to access PsycINFO

The search string below will automatically limit the results of your search to the list of journals you need to find your articles in. Just make sure to leave the search string of journal names in the first box, and use the other empty search box(es) for your search terms.

Tip 2: Use the Filters in the left column

  • Peer-Reviewed article
  • Empirical Study (available under Methodology) - you'll still need to verify it is original research - see Tip 4
  • Published in the last 10 years

Tip 3: Look at the Subjects to expand your search

Because you are only searching in a few journals, you may have a problem finding enough articles. If so

  • try different search terms (think of different words that are related or mean the same thing)
  • look at the Subject words attached to articles you are finding that seem related to your topic
  • using the the word "OR" and combine different words with similar meanings in each box to expand your search

Tip 4: Can't tell from the Abstract if it is original research?

Read the article Abstract. If you still can't tell, read the beginning of the Methods section of the research article.

Tip 5: Use the Folder or E-mail option

And you will receive a permalink and APA citation for the article
